Premium Forged Wheels
Forged wheels are the strongest and lightest construction in the alloy wheel category, which is why they dominate the luxury and performance sector. Premier Auto Design supplies built-to-order forged wheels from Premier Edition and Incurve Wheels Europe.
Because forged wheels are machined from billet rather than poured into a fixed mould, the geometry is defined per order: diameter, width, offset, centre bore, face profile and finish are all specified before production begins.
How forged wheels are made
A forged wheel starts as a solid billet of aluminium alloy. The billet is compressed under extreme pressure, which aligns and densifies the metal's grain structure instead of leaving the random structure a casting produces. The blank is then CNC-machined into the finished wheel.
The result is a wheel that carries the same load with less material. That matters twice over: it reduces unsprung mass, and it allows thinner, deeper spoke architecture than a cast wheel can support.
Monoblock, two-piece and three-piece construction
- Monoblock (1-piece): the entire wheel is machined from a single forging. The lightest and stiffest option, and the usual choice for performance applications.
- Two-piece: a forged centre bolted or welded to a separate forged barrel. Allows a wider spread of widths and offsets from one centre design.
- Three-piece: a forged centre with separate inner and outer rim halves. The most configurable construction, ideal for deep-lip luxury fitments and unusual widths.
Strength, weight and concavity
The strength-to-weight advantage of forging is what makes aggressive concavity possible. A deeply concave face pushes the spokes further inboard, so the spoke needs to carry load over a longer span — a job a forged spoke can do at a section thickness a cast spoke cannot.
How much concavity a particular vehicle can accept depends on brake caliper clearance, arch depth and the offset chosen. This is specified per vehicle rather than assumed.
Custom sizing, finishes and vehicle-specific engineering
Forged sets are specified around the platform: load rating for heavy luxury SUVs, caliper clearance for big-brake performance cars, and centre bore and PCD matched to the hub.
Finishes include gloss, satin and matte monotones, brushed and polished metals, and two-tone combinations with contrasting hardware. Bespoke colour matching is available on most built-to-order programmes.
